My new love is presenting fabulous engaging and exciting ways to incorporate technology into literacy instruction! Not only do our young readers need 21st century instruction, they need it provided to them in a 21st century way...through technology!
How do I provide these sessions?
1. Spring 2017 I am scheduled to provide sessions in central and western Illinois.
2. I also provide instruction through free and paid video sessions on my Teachers Pay Teacher Store.
3. Another way you can take advantage of my sessions for free is to follow on Instagram, Facebook, and Periscope where I present live video of free ideas you can incorporate in your classroom the next day!
For my day job, I am a reading specialist and currently work as a Title I/ RTI teacher/coordinator in Illinois. Our school sits at the edge of the Mississippi River opposite the state of Iowa.
In the past 27 years I have been a classroom teacher in grades 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, & 6th and a Title I teacher/RTI teacher.
Moving around and having the opportunity to experience so many stages of learning has prepared me for doing what I love...teaching developing readers! I cannot imagine doing anything else!
I am blessed to love what I do!
My 5 Keys For Teaching Struggling Readers
1st: Reading Motivation! (Hence technology!)
(without it...true readers are not formed)
2nd: Assessment
(Knowing what a young reader needs is of utmost importance in order to provide it)
3rd: Respect/Love
(In order to reach struggling readers they need to feel they are respected and loved)
4th: Collaboration/Education
(Gaining information and brainstorming ideas with various experts to assist developing readers is key as well as continuing to learn the newest and most innovative ways to teach literacy)
5th: Goals/Reflection
(This is true for both student and teacher)
